How to change your email password on your iPhone

Update your email account password on iPhone in a few taps through the Settings app.

1 min read Updated 9 Jun 2026

If you have changed your email password in cPanel, you will need to update it on your iPhone too, otherwise your mail will stop sending and receiving.

The Settings path below reflects iOS 14 and earlier. On iOS 14 and later the section is called Mail rather than Mail, Contacts, Calendars, but the steps are otherwise the same.

Steps

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone. The icon may be on a different screen or in a different location than shown in the screenshots below.

  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

  3. Tap the email account you want to update.

  4. Tap the account name again on the next screen.

  5. Tap the Password field and enter your new password.

  6. Tap Done to save the change.

Your iPhone will verify the new password with the mail server and resume sending and receiving mail.
