The iPhone Mail app gives you a good range of options for controlling how your email looks and behaves. Here is a walkthrough of the most useful settings.

Opening the mail settings

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone. Its location on your home screen may vary.

Fetch new data

  1. Tap Fetch New Data to control how often your iPhone checks for new messages.

  2. If your email service supports Push, you can enable it here so messages arrive as soon as they are delivered. Otherwise, set Fetch to check at a fixed interval - every 15, 30, or 60 minutes - or choose Manually to check only when you open the app.

Message display options

  1. Back in the main Mail settings, you can set how many messages to show at once and how many Preview lines to display beneath each subject line.

  1. Enable Always Bcc Myself if you want a copy of every sent message delivered to your inbox. You can also set a custom Signature and, if you have more than one account, choose which is your Default Account.
