Create mobile and desktop versions

Show or hide individual elements per device so your campaign looks right on both phone and desktop.

1 min read Updated 10 Jun 2026

More than 60% of emails are opened on a phone, so it's worth making sure yours looks right there as well as on a desktop. MailMachine lets you show or hide individual elements per device, so you can tailor the experience without building two separate emails. This guide covers how.

Build device-specific content

  1. Create your campaign - click Campaigns, then Emails, and the + button (or start from an Email Template).
  2. Design it in the email designer as usual - text, images, buttons, your colours and fonts.
  3. To hide an element on one device, select it, and in its settings on the right find Hide on. Choose Mobile or Desktop.
  4. Repeat for any other elements you want to show or hide per device.
  5. Preview both the mobile and desktop versions to check they look right.
  6. Set your recipients, subject and send time, and send.

Troubleshooting

Elements don't hide - save after setting "Hide on", refresh the preview, and test on a real device. Some email clients don't support device-specific hiding.

The mobile version looks cramped - use single-column layouts, larger fonts, and less padding for mobile.

Desktop elements show on mobile - double-check "Hide on mobile" is set, and lean on responsive design as a fallback.

Preview doesn't match the real thing - email clients render differently from the preview, so send real test emails to different devices.
