Will Patchman break my website?

Patchman targets only known security vulnerabilities, so your website stays intact and working as expected.

1 min read Updated 4 Jun 2026

Patchman is designed to fix security vulnerabilities without touching anything else on your site - here is why that matters.

How Patchman patches your site

Unlike a full application update, Patchman applies surgical fixes only to the specific lines of code that contain a known vulnerability. Everything else - your plugins, themes, configuration, and content - is left exactly as it is.

Full application updates, by contrast, replace large amounts of code at once. This can break plugins or themes that depend on a particular version of the application, which is a common cause of sites going down after an update.

Because Patchman changes only the vulnerable code and nothing more, it carries a much lower risk of disrupting your site than a full upgrade would.

What this means for you

  • Your site continues to work normally after a Patchman patch is applied.
  • Plugins and themes that rely on a specific application version are not affected.
  • You get the security benefit of the fix without the compatibility risks of a full update.
