## What is Imunify360?

Imunify360 is a fully automated security suite designed to protect your server against a wide range of threats, including malware, viruses, and other cyber attacks. It combines several security tools into a single, lightweight solution.

Key features include:

- **Malware scanning and removal** - Imunify360 detects malware through on-demand, daily, and real-time scanning of all data written to disk. It quarantines infected files and, where code has been injected, cleans the files to restore them to their original state.
- **Firewall** - The built-in firewall blocks incoming traffic from known malicious sources and monitors for suspicious activity. It uses machine learning and a shared IP reputation database to protect against malicious networks.
- **Intrusion detection and prevention** - The intrusion detection and prevention system (IDPS) analyses traffic patterns to identify and block cyber attacks in real time.
- **Proactive defence** - Imunify360 analyses code executions on the server in real time, identifying and blocking malicious activity before it can cause harm. This helps protect against emerging threats that other security solutions may not yet recognise.
- **Fast and lightweight** - Imunify360 is designed to have minimal impact on server performance, making it well suited to high-traffic websites and applications.

## Do I need Imunify360 if I already use a security plugin?

Application-level security plugins, such as Wordfence for WordPress, offer some protection, but their scope is much more limited than a server-level solution.

Here is how the two approaches differ:

- **Scope** - Imunify360 protects the entire server against malware, brute force attacks, and DDoS attacks. A security plugin only protects the application it is installed on, leaving the rest of the server exposed.
- **Scanning depth** - Imunify360 performs deep server-level scanning to detect and remove infections that may not be visible at the application layer. Security plugins only scan the application itself.
- **Prevention vs reaction** - Imunify360 can stop malicious traffic before it ever reaches your application. Security plugins are largely reactive, responding to threats after they arrive.
- **Proactive defence** - Imunify360 identifies and blocks new threats in real time. Security plugins typically rely on known threat signatures and cannot offer the same level of proactive protection.
- **Resource usage** - Imunify360 is extremely lightweight. Some security plugins are resource-intensive and can slow down your application.

You may choose to keep a security plugin running alongside Imunify360, but it is largely surplus to requirements. We strongly advise against relying on a plugin alone.
