Choosing the right billing cycle is one of the first decisions you make when you sign up for hosting with us. This article explains how each cycle works, what payment methods we accept, and what happens when your service is due for renewal.

## Billing cycle options

When you order a hosting plan, you can choose from four billing cycles:

- **Monthly** - you pay each month on a rolling basis.
- **Annual (1 year)** - you pay for twelve months upfront.
- **Biennial (2 years)** - you pay for twenty-four months upfront.
- **Triennial (3 years)** - you pay for thirty-six months upfront.

Longer prepayment terms offer the best value. The per-month cost falls as the term length increases, so choosing an annual or multi-year cycle is the most cost-effective option if you are confident you will be staying with us.

:::tip
If you are just starting out and want to try the service first, a monthly cycle is a perfectly sensible choice. You can always [switch to a longer term later](/knowledgebase/billing-account/understanding-prorated-charges-when-upgrading-or-changing-billing-cycle) to lock in a lower rate.

## When invoices are sent

We send your renewal invoice **15 days before the due date**. This gives you plenty of time to review the invoice, update your payment details if needed, or make any changes to your service before the payment is taken.

You will receive the invoice by email to the address registered on your Kualo account. If you have contacts or sub-accounts set up, make sure the right people are configured to receive billing emails so nothing is missed.

## Payment methods

We accept the following payment methods:

- Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express)
- PayPal
- Bank transfer (minimum annual)

Credit and debit card is the only payment method that supports automatic renewal. If you pay by card, you can store your card details securely in the Kualo Client Area so that renewal invoices are settled automatically. You can update or remove a stored card at any time - see [How do I update my credit card?](/knowledgebase/billing-account/how-do-i-update-my-credit-card) for the steps.

PayPal and bank transfer are manual payment methods - invoices must be paid by you each time they are due. Direct debit is not available.

## What happens at renewal

When a renewal invoice is generated, the following happens:

1. We email the invoice to you 15 days before the due date.
2. If you have a card stored and automatic billing is enabled, payment is attempted on the due date.
3. Once payment is confirmed, your service renews for the same term length you are currently on.
4. If payment is not received by the due date, your account may be suspended. See [What happens if I'm late paying?](/knowledgebase/billing-account/what-happens-if-im-late-paying) for more detail on the grace period and what to do.

:::info
Your service always renews on the same billing cycle unless you change it beforehand. If you want to switch cycle length, upgrade, downgrade, or cancel, see [Need to Make Changes to Your Service?](/knowledgebase/billing-account/need-to-make-changes-to-your-service-upgrades-downgrades-and-cancellations) for the steps and any applicable notice periods.

## Changing your billing cycle

You can request a change to your billing cycle at any time through the Kualo Client Area. Changes normally take effect at the next renewal rather than mid-term. If you are unsure what is available for your current plan, [contact our support team](/knowledgebase/getting-started/how-to-create-a-support-ticket-in-mykualo) and we will be happy to help.

## VAT and invoice details

VAT may be added to your invoices depending on your location and whether you are registered as a business. For a full explanation of how VAT is calculated on Kualo invoices, see [VAT and tax on Kualo invoices](/knowledgebase/billing-account/vat-and-tax-on-kualo-invoices).

Make sure your billing name, address, and VAT number are accurate in MyKualo so your invoices are always correct. See [How to update your billing address and company details](/knowledgebase/billing-account/how-to-update-your-billing-address-and-company-details) if you need to make changes.
