Data Center Tour
Our business is keeping your business online - every second of every day. Our network and data center are an integral part of this process. When it comes to ensuring reliability and performance we don't make any compromises.
Click the thumbnails below to take the tour of the datacenter. We're extremely proud of it. Why not make it the home for your website?
The building
Located on the 7th floor within a windowless concrete bunker, it has been built to withstand most manmade disasters. This tour will give you an overview of the various features. We believe there is no better home for your web site.
An abundance of power
With thousands of servers to power, the provision of stable, uninterruptible power is vital.
The building itself is connected to two separate power grids, including the emergency grid. In the event that one grid fails, the building will immediately and seamlessly switch to the secondary grid. With a dedicated substation within the datacenter itself, we have more power available than we could ever use.
Redundant Diesel Generators
Two Catepillar 100 kVA generators are in place so we can maintain long-term power in the event that we experience total loss of both grids. These are tested every two weeks, and with full datacenter load once per month. Each room has been reinforced to withstand the maximum impact speed of any part, meaning each generator is completely shielded from the other, as well as the outside elements.
Generator fuel supply
Each generator sits immediately on top of a 600 gallon belly tank, and has additional piped access to a 4000 gallon reservoir. This means we can sustain power to the entire facility for over 72 hours without the need to refuel. The fuel pipes are constantly kept warm to ensure a clean and efficient start. Located indoors and high up on the 7th floor, the generators are completely shielded from adverse weather conditions.
Automatic Power Switching
Whether grid or generator power is used is determined by the Automatic Transfer Switch. In the event that utility power fails, the ATS will switch to generator power without the need for any human intervention whatsoever.
N+1 Parallel UPS System
All equipment is powered by an N+1 redundant uninterruptible power supply system. The UPS ensures a consistent and surge-free supply of power to sensitive equipment. The banks of batteries act as a cushion so that in the event we need to switch to generator power, we don't lose a single second of power whilst the generator fires up.
We monitor everything - from circuits down to individual power ports - so we can detect even the slightest abnormality before it becomes a real problem.
Environmental Control Systems
The server room features fully redundant environmental control systems, including redundant glycol loops to feed the air conditioning units. State-of-the-art monitoring systems constantly "sniff" the air to ensure purity, humidity and heat levels are optimal, whilst also making the most efficient use of energy at all times.
Cement Cored Raised Flooring
The air conditioning systems pump the cooled air underneath the floor. The cool air is then pumped directly to server racks, ensuring a high level of efficiency.
The raised flooring is cement cored, making it extremely sturdy!
Servers
We use rack-optimized servers, meaning that we maximize space and resource efficiency. The image to the right shows a row of server racks full of servers. Each server can be remotely controlled and power cycled, meaning our technicians don't even need to leave their desks to resolve the vast majority of issues.
Rack optimized doors - 20% more airflow!
We upgrade the standard rack doors with a custom mesh to increase airflow to servers. We estimate that this increases airflow by around 20% and dramatically improves cooling, reducing component failure rates significantly.
Neat and Efficient Cabling
We're neat freaks, completely fanatical about neat cabling. We think if a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing properly. Whilst neat cabling might seem unimportant, it not only helps reduce the likelihood of a wrong cable being unplugged, but it also helps ensure better airflow and more efficient cooling within the rack. For us, it's essential.
Fully Redundant Cisco Powered Network
We operate a completely Cisco powered network, which is fully redundant. This means that should we experience hardware failure on the core network, we'll remain online whilst it is replaced. We utilize VLAN technology and fully segregate our network, helping to prevent data sniffing and mitigate our exposure to denial of service attacks.
Fiber Right to Access Switches!
We run redundant fiber optic cables to every internet facing switch on our network. Each fiber is uplinked to a separate router, ensuring we have full redundancy to every single switch.
24/7 Monitoring & Support
We monitor network and server status 24/7/365. Our monitoring systems check thousands of services every minute providing our support team with real-time information on the state of our network and servers under management. Our support team is available to you 24 hours a day with any technical queries you may have about your service.
